Plot.

Vitus Brandner, master consort of the famous and rich violinist Benedikt Oberbucher, and Afra Schlederer, the daughter of a poor tailor, love each other. When Vitus goes to Cremona on a professional basis and he has to leave quite surprisingly, Afra is in the mountains at the place of calamity, at which her father died, because it is his death. Thus, both can not say goodbye. The postman, who likes Afra very much, tells the Oberbucher that he should stop around the hand of the young woman. Oberbucher talks with Kuni Schlederer, Afra's mother, and lets him see that he has an interest in her daughter. Afra, disappointed by Vitus' behavior, accepts the request from Oberbucher. On the day of the wedding Vitus comes back and is deeply disappointed that Afra has not been waiting for him.

The Violin Maker of Mittenwald (German: Der Geigenmacher von Mittenwald) is a 1950 West German drama film directed by Rudolf Schündler and starring Willy Rösner, Paul Richter and Franziska Kinz.

It is a heimatfilm, based on Ludwig Ganghofer's play of the same name. It was shot at the Bavaria Studios in Munich. Location filming took place in the Austrian Tyrol, Cremona in Italy and Mittenwald in Bavaria, known as a historic centre of violin manufacturing.
