In 1958, the widowed Alvaro Galhardo has an open and modern relationship with his three daughters: Ana, Yolanda and Cristina. Álvaro is always criticized for his sister-in-law, Fausta, for the way he educates them. While they find love, he falls in love again with Marta, a woman who is unsettled. Marta has two children: Murilo, son of the first husband, and Tavinho, son of Antnor, with whom he has been living for 12 years. As he moves from Meier, a Carioca neighborhood of the North Zone, to Ipanema, South Zone, Marta will live right in front of Álvaro's house, starting a novel with him.
