Vila Madalena (1999)
Plot.
The couple Solano and Eugenia celebrates good news. After six months without work, he gets a beak as a trucker, taking a load to another city. While he has the promise of a better job, the woman announces that she is pregnant. At the same time, another couple, Roberto and Pilar, meets at the church door to correct the last details of the wedding, marked for next week. When everything seems joy, the surprise The police discover that the cargo that Solano transports is smuggling, and he is arrested and sentenced to 17 years in jail. Roberto is also arrested because, while defending Pilar from two marginals, he causes, unintentionally, the death of one of them, who is accidentally run over in front of the church.
In the penitentiary, Solano and Roberto meet and become friends. When Solano is released seven years later, Roberto delivers a letter to Pilar. Solano meets Pilar and the two fall in love. Still, he goes in search of Eugenia and his son and, when he finds her, discovers that she is married to an old boss, Arthur. She has two children with the new husband but still feeds a passion for Solano.
The conflict has the city of São Paulo as a backdrop, highlighting the glamour of the Vila Madalena, with its alternative trade, its nightlife, its modern and lively people. It is where Pilar's family lives: her mother Bibiana, a plastic artist, and her aunt Margot, a single woman who has an esoteric product shop.
Another important nucleus is located in another part of the West Zone of São Paulo, where the family of Solano lives: their parents Ângelo and Deolinda, and the brothers, the motorcycle boy Zezito (the Crazy Dog), and the sweet Nancy (the shoe).
