María José is a beautiful and humble young woman who had to work in domestic chores. Her father Serafin is very sick and her mother, Rosario, died a long time ago. Carlos Alberto is the only son of Raúl Almazán and Piedad and has always been a spoiled son. Maria José and Carlos Alberto meet accidentally and then meet again at the Universidade Pedagogica, where they study and teach. However, their friendship becomes quite hostile. Later, in their neighborhood, María José has a confrontation with Imperia, Carlos Alberto's girlfriend. After some time, it triggers a series of events that will lead Carlos Alberto to discover that this student to whom he so much rejected awakens a special feeling in him. Serafim confesses to María José that he is not his real father, while Raúl Almazán discovers that he has a daughter. This confession was made by his father, Rodrigo, before he died, making him promise that he would look for her. María José and Carlos Alberto plan to marry, but on the day of their marriage they meet Raúl and Serafín and confess to the young woman that she is Raúl's daughter and prevent the marriage. Imperia takes advantage of this situation and tries to conquer Carlos Alberto again to marry him. Later, Raúl discovers that Carlos Alberto is not really his son, but when he finds out, Carlos Alberto is struggling to recover Maria José's love, but who knows if fate wants to give them a second chance.
