Plot.

José Leoncio, a peon de cometiva who arrived with the Father Joventino to the Pantanal, where they bought a farm and began to raise cattle. José Leoncio and his father hunted marruás, a kind of wild ox that lived loose through the woods of the region, thus increasing the herd on the farm. One day, Zé Leoncio traveled with the pawns in the cometiva and asked his father not to hunt marruá alone. However, the old Joventino ended up going hunting and disappeared in the immensity of the Pantanal. History still has a supernatural side, based on the fascinating folklore of the Pantaneira region: the main characters, with the exception of José Leoncio, often come across a figure known as "The Old River", an elderly healer who takes care of the people attacked by the mouth-of-the-snake jararaca, a poisonous snake, or who simply get lost in the extension of the Pantanal. Everyone comments that the Old River is the Father of all sucuris, that it turns into sucuri, also being the greatest of all.
