Wolfgang Panzer (* 1947 in Munich) is a German film director, author and producer.Panzer grew up in Bavaria, Turin and Lausanne. After graduating he became a reporter and Tagesschau editor for Swiss television, then studied from 1970 in Munich at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen. Already during this time he worked as a cameraman and director assistant in Germany and France. At Bavaria Atelier GmbH he managed international co-productions. Since 1978 Panzer works as an author, film producer and director freelance. He shot the television films Aunt Maria (1979), Point Hope (1983), Liebfrauen (1985), Leere Welt (1987), Liebesleben (1990), Auf der Suche nach Salome (1991), Die Rachegöttin (1992), Die Director (1994), Ärzte (1995) and Liebesau (2001) For the crime series Tatort he realized Die Reise in den Tod (1996), Tödlicher Galopp (1997), Bierkrieg (1997), Licht und Schatten (1999) and Direkt ins Herz (2000).In 2007 he shot Die Brücke for the production company Lionheart Entertainment, a TV adaptation of the anti-war novel of the same name by Manfred Gregor (alias Gregor Dorfmeister).In August and September 2008 he filmed the novel Der große Kater des Schweizer Writer Thomas Hürlimann (The Great Cat of the Swiss Writer Thomas Hürlimann) in Switzerland (mainly Bruno Ganz and Marie Bäumer). The cinema premiere was in Switzerland on 21 January 2010, in Germany on 28 October 2010.1997 Panzer received the Bavarian Film Prize (Special Prize) for the movie Broken Silence. Wolfgang Panzer lives with his family in Germany and Switzerland.
