Alejandra Martínez is a beautiful and intelligent woman who has dedicated her life to medicine in order to overcome her tormented and humble origin and to prove herself and those around her that she can contribute to society without having children. Alejandra considers that children are a burden and a source of obstacles, as happened to her mother, Charity Martínez, who had five children of different men believing that a man could save her from loneliness, but they all abandoned her to her fate. After a year of medical internships and social work in rural areas of her country, Alejandra returns to the working-class neighborhood of her family in the western part of Caracas.
