Girlfriend who sees you is Guita Schyfter's first feature film, as well as the first Mexican film that addressed the issue of the cultural integration of Jewish communities in Mexico. It is an approach to Jewish communities living in Mexico and the way in which the two cultures have adapted to each other. The film was based on the homonymous novel written, a year earlier (1992), by Rosa Nissan, which also questions the traditional role of Jewish women, as well as the customs and traditions of the Sephardic community.
