Wiki.
Smog is a socio-critical German film about a fictitious smog disaster in the Ruhr region, based on the screenplay by Wolfgang Menge and directed by Wolfgang Petersen from 1973. It was initially produced exclusively for television. Many viewers considered the pseudo-docu to be real and called during the broadcast on 15 April 1973 worriedly at the TV station WDR.
