The young actress Caterina Bastiani sees the chance of her life when she is offered the leading role in a musical. But the author of the novel has concerns about this: firstly he does not want to see his material prepared as a musical revue and secondly he thinks little of Caterina. Then the aspirating actress comes to the aid of chance. When she hears that the writer is looking for a housemaid, she applies for the job. With success - and not without consequences.
