El Charro Negro (German: Der schwarze Reiter) is a 1940 Mexican film directed by Raúl de Anda, who also wrote the screenplay. It is the first part of the four-part Charro Negro film series, which enjoyed great popularity. After his fiancée had been dishonored and subsequently took his life, Roberto becomes a masked black rider who fights against injustice. When the farmer Pedro sells his property to Emilio, he pretends to be the black rider. He murders Pedro and steals the money he had paid for him. He also wounded Ramón, the brother Robertos and the fiancée of Pedro's daughter Julia. Emilio threatens to chase both Julia and her mother from the farm, but the real black rider can thwart this plan.El Charro Negro was produced by Raúl de Anda with his own company Prods. Raúl de Ana. The film premiered on 18 July 1940. De Andra made three sequels: in 1941 La vuelta del Charro Negro and La venganza del Charro Negro came to the cinema, in 1949 El Charro Negro en el norte followed.
