Plot.
In 1976, when he was only 19 years old, Massimo Carlotto was accused of a murder of which he was the only witness. Because of this accusation he was subjected to 11 trials, spent 6 years in prison and 5 years in "Fuggiasco". His legal odyssey lasted 18 years, ending in 1993 when the President of the Republic granted him grace.

The Fugitive (Italian: Il fuggiasco) is a 2003 Italian crime-drama film written and directed by Andrea Manni. It is based on a 1995 autobiographical novel by Massimo Carlotto, about his period in hiding in France and Mexico following a miscarriage of justice.For this film Andrea Manni was nominated for David di Donatello for Best New Director.
