Biography
Barbara Nüssel (born 17 February 1943 in Essen) is a German actress. Barbara Nüssel graduated from the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich and received her first engagement at the Atelier-Theater in Bern. From 1967 to 1971 she was a member of the Bayerische Staatsschauspiel. She played, among others, the Minna von Barnhelm in 1970 and the Klara in Maria Magdalena in 1972. From 1972 to 1976 she was an actress in Cologne. 1976 to 1978 she worked at the Württembergisches Staatstheater Stuttgart, 1978 to 1980 at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. In 1980 she moved to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, whose ensemble she belonged to until 1985. In the 1985/86 season Barbara Nüssen acted at the Staatliche Schauspielbühne Berlin. After that she went on tour as a free actress and received attention through her scenic realization of the Molly Bloom monologue from Ulysses under the title Penelope She later appeared on stage in Basel and Düsseldorf. From 1992 to 1999 she was again engaged at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Since then she has performed at the Maxim Gorki Theatre, the Hamburg Chamber Games, the Residenztheater München, Volkstheater Wien, the Schauspiel Köln (main role in König Lear, 2009) and the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Barbara Nuts, occasionally also on film and on television, is also an important radio play and audio book speaker. Barbara Nuts received the Rolf Mares Prize for her performance in Vita and Virginia at the Hamburg Chamber Games in 2006. In 2009 she was awarded the International Book Prize Corine for her reading by Fred Vargas. She was awarded the Gertrud-Eysoldt-Ring 2009 for her acting performance on important German-speaking stages, especially for the performance of King Lear at the Schauspiel Köln.Since the 2010/11 season Barbara Nuts has been an ensemble member of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
