Cheryl Dunye (born May 13, 1966) is a Liberian-American film director, producer, screenwriter, editor and actress. Dunye's work often concerns themes of race, sexuality, and gender, particularly issues relating to black lesbians.
Dunye is a lesbian. She has two children, Simone Dunye and Gabriel Juhasz. As of 2010, she resides in Oakland, California with her spouse.
Dunye was born in Liberia and grew up in Philadelphia. She received her BA from Temple University and her MFA from Rutgers' Mason Gross School of Art.
