Not only on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, they drove their way. Up to the Mediterranean, they penetrated and terrified the coastal people there. Legends surround the Vikings. But who were they really? Archaeologists and historians came to surprising findings in recent years. Only recently, unknown Viking villages and cemeteries were discovered during excavations in Poland, Russia and Estonia, as well as two Viking ships full of skeletons of warriors. To the scientists, these discoveries provided important new insights into the notorious people from the north, which made the seas uncertain, especially between the ninth and eleventh centuries. For this documentary series, film teams shot in 2014 and 2015 in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Poland, Estonia, France, Great Britain, Turkey, Iceland and other countries. Leading experts, archaeologists and scientists were interviewed in each country. In addition, Jomsborg Viking's battle scenes were re-enacted on the site of the legendary Viking fortress.
