Plot.

A maneuver between Prussian and Bavarian troops is imminent. In the house of Ludwig Thoma, among other things, the Bavarian sergeant Falkenberg is quartered, who turns out to be an unloving brother of the priest "Kindlein" Falkenberg. Ludwig reacts to his inexorable and fury outbreaks with numerous strokes, which Falkenberg ultimately drives as a repentant sinner into his brother's arms. In a nightly battle, Ludwig jumps in for his illegally absent friend Sepp and steals the Prussian flag on his own to help Bavaria win. On the way back, however, he loses it and of all things, his own nephew becomes the honorary savior of Prussia.
