Wiki.
The Boy and the Convict is a silent short film from 1909, directed by David Aylott. It is the first film adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel Great Expectations. The popularity of these stories, whose plot was already familiar to the public, was well suited to be presented in the still concise form of the short film, not requiring detailed explanations and being able to limit itself to the main scenes. The actors are not credited and the identity is not known. The child actor protagonist of the first part of the film should however be Stuart Williamson who in those years worked regularly in the father company also in other films directed by the director David Aylott.
